  • Bob Hayes (guitar)

unknown name (c. 1970)
  • Brad Delp (vocals, guitar?)
  • Fran Sheehan (bass)
A short-lived group that broke up before playing any formal gigs. Brad was in this band when he first jammed with Tom, Barry and Jim. Unsure if this is the same group as Bagshot Row.

  • Kevin Clougherty (bass, vocals)
  • Barry Goudreau (guitar, vocals)
  • Tom Scholz (keyboards)
  • Jim Masdea (drums)
According to Tom, this was the band that he joined in 1970 after answering a newspaper ad. Barry and Brad have placed the date as early as 1969. Kevin Clougherty would later join Bullseye, which signed a contract with Columbia Records and released one album in 1979 ("ON TARGET", Columbia JC 35973).

This may be the same as the Delp/Sheehan group mentioned above, although Bagshot Row definitely played some formal gigs before breaking up.

Middle Earth (c. early 1970s)
  • Barry Goudreau (guitar, vocals)
  • Tom Scholz (keyboards, guitar)

  • Barry Goudreau (guitar, vocals)
  • Tom Scholz (keyboards, guitar)
  • Jim Masdea (drums)
  • Brad Delp (vocals)
This was the infamous night that Brad first joined the group, jamming with them at a club called Jojo's in Revere Beach, Massachusetts, c. 1970. The first song they played together was The Allman Brothers' "Whipping Post". Shortly thereafter, Delp auditioned for the group in Jim Masdea's basement.

Mother's Milk (c. 1969-1974 or c. early 1973-early 1974)

  • Tom Scholz (guitar, keyboards)
  • Barry Goudreau (guitar, vocals)
  • Jim Masdea (drums)
  • Frank Cremone (bass)
  • "Rabbit" (vocals)
Barry and Brad have indicated that this band formed c. 1969-70. Tom says that the name "Mother's Milk" was not used until early 1973. Brad quit the band at some point, and was replaced by a singer known as "Rabbit". The group split up in early 1974, at which point Tom decided to concentrate on home demos. Fran Sheehan has indicated that he and Sib Hashian both played with the band at one time or another.

Spring Rain (c. 1970s)

Fran was in the band for just a short while before breaking his hand in a fight with the drummer. The band subsequently broke up.

Fran and Sib played in numerous bands together, including at least one lounge act c. 1974 where Fran was primarily a singer (this was after he broke his hand). A second group existed just before Fran joined a popular "horn band".
